Send me somebody who's strong yet somewhat sincere
I look around me and see people differently than before. I notice the fake smiles on people that make the viewing public believe they're happy. You know what I mean, the masks we all put on at one time or another to make everyone else think we're doing okay.
Have you ever watched people when no one else is looking? I find myself watching people who ended up together, wondering if they're happy. I could win an Oscar for my performances. Half of my life was spent trying to pretend it was all okay. If the public knew the truth they would know my life was a fake.
How many of us live our lives for the sake of the public? On stage, we smile and laugh, make small talk, but when we return to the walls that confine our existance, we resort to our real selves. The person we've become is hardly fit for the public's viewing. Perhaps we're just a shadow of our former existence. Or maybe we're just lost. We might live inside our heads, in a fantasy that exists in some other time, a time when we still had hope.
When we finally decide we've have enough, we leave the stage like Bette Davis on a bad day. We huff off to our trailer to be alone with our dramatic selves. We contemplate quitting the scene but realize the cost outweighs the benefits of starting over. So we stay to live the life of the actor. Unfortunately, life isn't a dress rehearsal and the clock ticks.
If we're lucky, the fat lady sings and the old life is over. We venture out to find what we've been looking for all along...our true identity. And if we're lucky, we find someone who gets us.
You've gotta hope
That there's someone for you
Strange as you are
Who can cope
With the things that you do
Without trying too hard
'Cause you can bend the truth
Till it's suiting you
These things that you're wrapping all
around you
Never know what they will amount to
If you're life is just going on without you
It's the end of the things you know
Here we go
You've gotta know
That there's more to this world
Than what you have seen
'Cause we all
Have a limited view
Of what it can be
As we move along
With our blinders on
Each one of us feels a little stranded
And you can't explain or understand it
Each one of us is on a different planet
Amidst all the to and fro
Someone can say hello
Here we go
Feeling that someone really gets you
Well it's something that noone should
object to
It could happen today so I suggest you
Skip your habit of laying low
It's the end of the things you know
Here we go
Someone can say hello
You old so and so
Here we go -Jon Brion
