On film
Critics have long been trashing Woody Allen films, but I see pure genius in all of them. "Anything Else," Woody's newest film starring Jason Biggs and Christina Ricci, is perfect. The movie is a dark romantic comedy about two Manhattan neurotics -- up-and-coming comedy writer Jerry Falk (Jason Biggs), and aspiring actress Amanda (Christina Ricci). Woody plays a supporting role to Biggs as David Dobel, a brilliant, eccentric fading comedy writer who bonds with Falk. The writing is classic Woody with a hint of "Annie Hall." Don't miss it.
I also picked up a copy of "Heaven," a film by Diane Keaton that takes a look at the concept of life after death. Keaton intersperses outrageous real-life interviews with film footage from classics like "Metropolis," "Stairway to Heaven," and "Green Pastures." After watching hundreds of interviews with people describing what heaven is like and hearing hundreds of testamonials of blind faith, I realized how someone like David Koresh could have so many followers. People are so gullible.

Critics love Woody Allen! They adore him, although he's been a little sloppy in the last few years. "Hollywood Ending" and "Curse of the Jade Scorpion" didn't get the best reviews, rightfully so. But every other film has been very well-received.
WRONG! The critics have been trashing Woody Allen since Annie Hall, and even before that. Watch "Stardust Memories" where Woody pokes fun of the media who slam him. "We especially like your early, more funnier films." Even in the recent documentary of his life he talks about how his films have never been well-received by the critics- that only the French really get him. Even the reviews of his new movie are very mixed.
I'm fascinated by the fact that I laughed several times during Anything Else, enjoyed much of the darker moments of the movie and yet, I walked away with a not-so satisfied feeling. Only Woody Allen ever seems to be get that reaction from me.
I've yet to see Curse of the Jade Scorpion, but the preview has one of the funniest lines I've heard in a while. Allen is ranting about the people who are after him, someone says to him, "You know, there's a name for people like you." To which Allen replies, "Yes, perceptive." Just beautiful. :D
